Being intentional means doing something on purpose. It means being deliberate. This term is often used in an apologetic fashion, i.e. when we apologize for doing something that we did not mean to do. But what if we were being intentional and purposeful in a positive way. What if we chose to act deliberately in order to get the results that we are looking for?
Ephesians 2:10 clearly states that we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works which God prepared in advance for us to do. Wow! This is quite intentional! We were created to live intentional lives. We were created to do and be before we were born. The motivation for our existence and the purpose for our lives were intentional in the mind of God. However, when we choose to live our lives based on the habits of others, based on the approval of others, based on the expectations of others, we ultimately lose track of our life’s purpose. We quickly stop being deliberate in our actions and begin to violate our values. Frustration and confusion are often a sign that we are not making choices based on our greatest values. We are not living the intentional life that God had intended for us. What is even worse is that we end up doing things that really do not matter in the greater scheme of things.
